Can Jay-Z Keep Up?

JayZ OldNewOr is he even trying to?

Years ago, Jay-Z was known as the feature killer. Lately it doesn’t seem like he has the same spark. In 2010, Hov dropped numerous gems on songs like “So Appalled”, “Monster”, “Light Up”, and “Shiny Suit Theory.” He has been receiving  criticism from fans because of his performance on “Watch The Throne,” and lackluster verses i.e.”Three Kings” With the release of the “Don’t Kill My Vibe” Remix, we hear Jay-Z go toe-to-toe with hip-hop’s newest star, Kendrick Lamar. We all know Jay-Z’s lyrical ability, but is the hunger there anymore? With the birth of Blue Ivy, and the move of the Nets to Brooklyn, keeping up with the new young stars may be the last thing on his mind.

What do you think?

I mean does he really have to keep up? He has a pretty amazing resume`, managed to stay relevant for all these years, a businessman and now a father. To be honest, we should be lucky to get these verses, muchless an album because dude is on a whole new level in his life. Jay is a fan of hip hop so he’s always gonna be involved.

We all respect Jay as one of the greatest, and know that his spot in the game is solidified. It’s just that a lot of fans wonder if Jay takes a competitive edge when it comes to doing his verses nowadays. Seems like he hasn’t been in killer mode in a while, so it would raise the question of whether he can keep up with these new lyricists or not.

  4. Dj Justice says:

Considering Jay Z was the greatest for a while, nobody rules forever. He has to make room for the newer artist coming out. Just like Jordan had to figure out, you can’t be the greatest forever, someone younger and better will always come around. Jay Z tends to jump on whatever track is hot at the time and that makes his appeal go down for me. He hasn’t came out with an actual album in years and only does features, he is trying to stay relevant and really should just let it burn and go out as the one of the best rappers for HIS TIME and keep it moving. Just like Beyonce going back to Destiny’s Child because her appeal started to fade. Just move on and bow out gracefully.

I think he can keep up but he needs some inspiration he also Under Estimated Kendrick a little with that song.

  6. CREOLE says:

EVEN JORDAN LOST HIS TOUCH JAY Z HAS MADE SO MANY GREAT SONGS HOW CAN U
EXPECT HIM TO STAY AT A HIGH LEVEL FOREVER HE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE ANY COMPETITION EVERY ONE THAT CAN RIVAL HIM IS DEAD AND GONE HE DOING IT
FOR FUN NOW NONE OF THESE NEW DUDES COMING OUT CAN BE CALLED THE NEXT JAY Z
THE NEXT PAC THE NEXT BIGGE EVERYBODY IS AVERAGE AT BEST

  7. Ledge says:

I think he picks and chooses the right time to compete on tracks to show people he still care. He realizes on a song like Don’t Kill My Vibe that it wasn’t the right kind of track for that.If you look at other tracks like “So Appalled” or further back on “Swagger Like Us” he shows you he is still the elite on posse cuts. However, with him its all about the track, the fellow MC’s and the timing.
